Franklin Clinton is one of the three protagonists in Grand Theft Auto V with Michael De Santa and Trevor Philips. He was born in South Los Santos in 1988 but never knew his father and his mother became a cocaine addict when he was very young.

When he was growing up, Franklin said that he often heard stories about his father, particulary how he was voilent and physically abusive towards his mother. Franklin’s father eventually left his mother whilst she was pregnant with Franklin and her cocaine addiction led to her death when Franklin was very young.

Since Franklin now needed someone to raise him, he moved in with his grandparents. During this time, Franklin met Tonya Wiggins and JB Bradshaw. Even though he was always spoiled by his grandparents, Franklin decided to become a street hustler. One of his first jobs was selling other people cigarettes with JB Bradshaw, Franklin said he was doing fine until his grandfather caught him in the act.

Tonya has remembered this by saying his grandfather “gave chase to both him and Bradshaw all around South Los Santos”. Sadly, Franklin’s grandparents passed away and he moved into a house in Strawberry left to him by his grandmother with his aunt Denise.

Franklin went to Davis High School with Lamar Davis, Tanisha Jackson and Tonya but was expelled after assaulting a teacher for no reason. Since he was expelled and had nothing to do, he turned to become a gangbanger and dope dealer.

Franklin started committing small crimes such as stealing cars and robberies with Lamar. Franklin recalled that during their first bank robbery, they stole $2,000 but a dye pack went off and made the money worthless. He also worked for a local drug dealer named Marcus who Franklin later killed. He was arrested in 2008 and sent to prison, when he was released Franklin decided to give up his gang life.

Franklin and Lamar started to work for an Armenian businessman named Simeon Yetarian who owned a car dealership in Pillbox Hill which acts as a front for a loansharking and extortion business. Yetarian sells cars to people who can’t afford them and when they fail on their repayments, Franklin and Lamar are told to repossess the cars.

Franklin and Lamar and first seen in the game whilst completing a repossession job for Yetarian. They are told to repossess a Bagger in a Vagos-controlled area of Vespucci, whilst they are searching garages for the vehicle they are spotted and confronted by the Vagos and a shootout begins when Lamar pulls a gun on them. Franklin and Lamar fight their way out of the area and find the bike whose owner was killed during the shootout.

Lamar decides to take the bike for himself and Yaterian blames Franklin for the bike’s theft. He orders Franklin to repossess a BeeJay XL sold to Jimmy De Santa, son of Michael De Santa at his house in Rockford Hills.

When Franklin sneaks through the house to the garage and leaves with the vehicle, Michael who has been hiding in the back seat of the car pulls a gun to Franklin’s head and orders him to drive the car through the window of Yaterian’s dealership. Franklin and Lamar both end of being fired because of what has happened.

Lamar convinces Franklin to help him kidnap a Balla gang member named D. They set up a meetup and travel in Lamar’s van to Vinewood Boulevard and find D in an alley, he escapes on a motorbike and Franklin and Lamar chase him in Lamar’s van.

By using Lamar’s dog, Chop, to help them track down D’s location they eventually capture him but are forced to let him go when Lamar reveals their location to the police whilst talking on his mobile phone.

Michael and Franklin both chase after the yacht and but fail to retrieve it after Michael’s car breaks down. Michael invites Franklin back to his house so that they can talk.

After getting fired by Simeon and losing his job, Franklin started to work with Michael after he invited him to his house for a beer. They are interrupted when Michael recieves a phone call from his son, Jimmy, asking him for help as he is stuck inside his father’s yacht which is being stolen and currently on the highway.

Franklin heads back to Michael’s house later and finds that Michael has caught his wife Amanda in bed with her tennis coach. Franklin helps Michael chase him to a house in the Vinewood Hills. Thinking that the house belongs to the tennis coach, Michael and Franklin use a winch on a pickup truck to pull the deck down which destroys the house.

When they both return back to Michael’s home, a man called Martin Madrazo appears and explains that it was his gilfriend’s house that they just destroyed. He attacks Michael and demands that he pays $2.5 million to repair the house.

After some time has passed, Michael asks Franklin to help him undertake a robbery at the Vangelico Jewelry Store off Portola Drive to get the money needed to pay for the repairs of the damaged house. Franklin accepts Michael’s offer as he sees this as a way of proving himself to Michael.

The heist is successful and Michael pays off the money he owes to Madrazo and splits the rest with Franklin and the rest of the crew. Dave Norton tells Michael to infiltrate a morgue, he does so but panicks when he escapes and calls Franklin to confide in.

He reveals that he is affiliated with the FIB but Franklin says that he will still help Michael because he helped him when he was in a tough financial situation.

As Franklin is now spending most of his time working with Michael, Lester Crest and Trevor Philips, it has caused him to be distant from his family and friends. When Franklin returns back to his home, Lamar and Denise give him shit for being disloyal but he defends himself by explaining he doesn’t want to get back into the gang life and wants to actually make a success of his life.

Trevor appears out of nowhere, gives Denise some money and makes her go back in the house. Trevor says that he’s “new in town and making friends” to which Lamar informs both of them that Stretch has arranged a drug deal at a house in Grove Street. Trevor decides to help them and the trio drive to Grove Street.

When the drug dealer answers the door, he offers Lamar a free sample from a brick of cocaine. Trevor interrupts and grabs the brick from the dealer and discovers that the other side of the brick is drywall, this causes a shootout to start in the street and the trio is forced to fight their way out of Grove Street from the Ballas and from the LSPD as they turn up.

They escape through a narrow alley which leads the trio to the Los Santos Storm Drain, they steal three Jetskis and head to the Alamo Sea where they eventually lose the cops.

Later on, Franklin gets introduced to billionaire Devin Weston by Michael. Weston employs him and tells Trevor, Michael and also Lamar to steal a few rare supercars so that he can export them out of the country. Franklin also helps Lester Crest with five assassination jobs he needs help with.

Trevor receives a call from Franklin, who as Trevor asked him, is tailing the O’Neil brothers that survived the house fire earlier on. Franklin starts to chase them up Great Ocean Highway until the O’Neil brothers crash because of an elk in the road and flip their car.

They start to escape into the forest on foot when Franklin calls Trevor to ask for air support. Michael and Trevor arrive in a helicopter and Trevor, using a sniper rifle fitted with a thermal scope, shoots Walton and Wynn but can’t get a clear shot of Elwood who is firing rockets at the helicopter.

Franklin locates the last O’Neil brother in the forest with the help of Chop and they kill him, Michael and Trevor pick up Franklin and the trio fly back to Sandy Shores Airfield.

Franklin continues to help Michael and Trevor with jobs that they are doing, one of them being the robbery of the Blaine County Savings Bank as it contains millions of dollars deposited there by Blaine County’s corrupt law enforcement who extort money from meth labs and weed farms.

The trio plus an extra crewman rob the bank by using stolen military body armor and rapid machine guns. After giving the largest profit to Haines and Norton which they needed to purchase equipment to rob the Humane Labs chemical plant, they each take a small cut for themselves.

Franklin drives to his aunt’s house in Strawberry and receives a call from his friend, Lamar. He is informed that Lamar has stolen the last car on Weston’s list which is a yellow Pegassi Monroe. He has it nearby at the Glass Heroes Autobody shop.

Franklin meets Lamar there and they both drive the car to Little Bighorn Avenue where Trevor is waiting with a Packer filled with all of the other cars that the trio have collected for Weston. Franklin places the Monroe onto the Packer and himself with Lamar and Trevor begin the drive to the drop-off point at Paleto Bay. Halfway through the journey, the police discover the cars and start to chase them up the highway.

Franklin climbs up on top of the Packer as Trevor drives to lose the police, whilst Trevor keeps the Packer steady, Franklin gets inside the JB 700 and uses the new weapons on board to destroy the police cars. They finally make it to the drop off point but the trio gets very angry when Devin refuses to pay them and promising them to “invest” their money and pay at a later date.

Franklin calls Lester and asks him to talk to Michael about Devin but Michael isn’t answering his phone and Lester finds out that he was last located in North Yankton. Franklin tells Lester to have Trevor meet him at his aunt’s house.

Trevor goes back to his aunt’s house to find out where Michael is, Trevor, reveals that the Los Santos Triads kidnapped Michael while they were in Ludendorff and that they have taken him somewhere in Los Santos. Franklin asks Trevor to help him find Michael, but he refuses and says that Michael is “dead” to him.

Franklin goes after Michael alone and uses an app that Lester sent to his phone called Trackify, he tracks Michael’s phone signal using the app and finds Michael in an abattoir where he rescues him from the Chinese Triads.

Michael and Franklin are called up again by Haines for another job, they are told to break into the FIB building ane remove incriminating evidence against Haines. They decide that they can either infiltrate the building disguised as firefighters or break in through the roof after being dropped off by a helicopter. The crew manages to recover the data and escape the building, they meet up with Lester and celebrate their victory.

Later, Franklin is visited at his house by his ex-girlfriend Tanisha who pleads with him to help Lamar as he has been set up by Stretch with a large group of Ballas. The Ballas are holding him hostage at the Paleto Forest Sawmill.

Franklin drives to the sawmill and asks Lester to contact Michael and Trevor on the way to help him to rescue Lamar.

The trio arrives at the sawmill and they take out the Ballas rescuing Lamar. Franklin takes Lamar back home to Forum Drive and when they arrive they both have an argument despite the fact that Franklin just saved his life. Franklin tells Lamar that he should stay out of trouble and abandon his gang lifestyle and get a real job.

As Lamar leaves the scene, Franklin is confronted by Haines and Norton who tell Franklin to kill Trevor due to his violent behavior and general liability. Franklin refuses and asks them to tell Michael to do it instead but Norton refuses and explains that Michael can’t because Trevor doesn’t trust Michael to go anywhere near him.

Franklin along with Michael and Trevor plan out and perform their final heist, the robbery of the Union Depository where they successfully steal over $200,000,000 worth of gold.
